Regular (Heat-Only) Boiler Installation

A regular boiler, also called a heat-only or conventional boiler, is the traditional open-vented setup found in many older Newport and Cardiff homes. It heats a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard, which is fed by a cold-water storage tank and a smaller feed-and-expansion tank up in the loft.

How a regular boiler heats your water

The boiler heats water and stores it in the cylinder, topped up from the cold-water tank in the loft; the feed-and-expansion tank keeps the heating circuit filled and gives it room to expand. Hot water is then drawn off to your taps and showers. Because the system is open-vented and cylinder-fed, it copes well with older pipework and lower mains pressure, and can supply several bathrooms at once.

Who a regular boiler suits

Regular boilers make most sense in larger or older homes that already run on this traditional layout, where a straight swap avoids re-plumbing, and in properties with high simultaneous hot water demand or weak incoming mains pressure. If your loft tanks and cylinder are sound, replacing just the boiler is the least disruptive and most cost-effective route.

Converting to a sealed system or a new cylinder can be added, priced clearly and separately.
